How zZounds Play As You Pay Works (2026): Plans, Fees and Approval Explained

Terms checked October 9, 2026 on zZounds' Play As You Pay page. Promotional terms can change, so your cart shows the plans you actually qualify for.

Quick answer: Play As You Pay splits a zZounds order into 4, 6, 8 or 12 payments (18 on select items) with no interest, ever. You pay a one-time plan fee of $6.95 to $29.95 depending on length, the first payment is charged when your gear ships, and the rest come about every 30 days. There's no store credit card to open, and plans cover up to $3,000 of gear.

zZounds' own FAQ lists slightly different ranges for some plans, so treat these as a guide. The options available for your exact order show up in your cart.

What It Actually Costs

Because there's no interest, the only extra cost is the plan fee. A few examples:

Shipping and tax are spread across the payments too. For comparison, carrying $1,200 on a typical credit card for a year would usually cost far more than $24.95 in interest.

How a Plan Works, Step by Step

  1. Pick a plan at checkout on any eligible order. You'll need a U.S. billing address, an email address, and a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card.
  2. zZounds approves the order. There's no fixed credit limit: each order is approved on its own, and your past zZounds orders count. zZounds may check your credit before shipping a partly paid order.
  3. Your gear ships and the first payment is charged. The remaining payments are charged about every 30 days. A backordered item ships on its own separate plan and isn't billed until it's on the way.
  4. Pay it off. You can make bigger payments or pay early with no penalty. You can't add items to a plan that's already running or change how many payments it has.

Approval and Your Credit

zZounds may use a credit reporting agency to approve an order, and it says on-time payments won't raise your credit score. So Play As You Pay is a good way to spread out a purchase, but not a way to build credit. Approval is decided order by order, so being approved once doesn't guarantee the next order, and a good history with zZounds helps.
